Tiller's Suggestion

"I'd no cause to be thinking of her, yet every man has some girl he thinks of, and my thoughts kept turning back to her." Barnabas Sackett

What You'll Have To Outrun

He chased her round the old playground

During recess in first grade.

In high school, country radio

kept them close as the love songs played.

Then at their country wedding,

The parson preached on Love

Said, "you might outrun a whole lotta things,

But you just can't outrun Love!"

Just like in every good Love story,

The hard times had to come,

And so one night, in a big ole fight,

He packed up his bags to run.

No matter how she pleaded,

She couldn't change his mind to stay

So leaning through the driver's window,

Here's what she had to say:

Chorus

"If you run, I'm coming after you,

And even if you get away,

You'll find me there on the radio

Every time a Love song plays!

Turn off the dial, and you'll have to deal

With the Father and the Son;

Cause Jesus, me, and the radio waves

Are what you'll have to outrun!"

Well, the first song on the radio

Was "Love like Johnny and June"

So he shut it off, and there in the sky

Was a bright, full Lover's moon.

So he stopped the car and he bowed to pray,

And all he heard from God above

Was "son, you might outrun a whole lotta things,

But you just can't outrun Love!"

Chorus

Wow- It's not often I make it into a subject line!

I love this song! Not because I gave you the idea, but because after I did, you called me and thanked me (sarcastically) for ruining your Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for posting this one...

J.M. got the other job, by the way, so we'll all be working together this summer!

Great job! I love the rhythm and how, when I read it, there's a slight touch of a southern/country accent that just HAS to be there. I also like how you left the story without resolution, it makes the song stick in my head more than if it had all be spelled out (eg: "and they lived happily ever after").

I'm already thinking of a melody for it. Too bad I can't create melodies people want to hear This one plays in my mind as medium to fast, maybe Gary Allan styled country rock, but the more I think about it, it's gotta be LeDoux kind of slow.

@James3_1 -

Actually, I would be interested in hearing what you thought the tune would be like! how was it different from what you heard?

@cowboy_christian -

Well, like I said, it was slower. I know you sung it straight through since it was acapella but there was perhaps a whole bar between the first verse and the chorus and the second verse and the chorus. (Is bar the right word?)

If you've ever heard "Look at what I've done" by Chris Cagle, that's kind of the speed I was thinking, and the melody might even work as well with a little tweaking...

Just my thoughts as an avid country music (real country) listener. I've no other skill than that lol

I'll look up that song! It's rare that people are actually able to explain a tune to me. thanks!
